Today I bring you an interview with one of my favorite suspense & thriller writers Jaime Jo Wright!
- When did you write your first book and how old were you?
I wrote my first full-length novel when I was 13. It was quite unextraordinary! But it did whet my appetite for crafting tales, traveling to imaginary places, and having adventures one can only explore on the page!
- As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Well, I really wanted to be a famous singer when I grew up, and then it was closely followed by becoming an archaeologist. When I realized you had to have patience and detail skills, I left behind the idea of archaeology and instead decided I would marry rich and travel the world. That didn’t work either, so I became a writer. 😉
- Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
It is really important to me that awareness continues to be brought that abuse in many forms continues on a daily basis. I believe that women can be the most powerful advocates for other women in their lives and that we should circle around each other. I also find that faith in God brings a refuge like none other, and my hope is that through the darkness of the world’s abuses and tribulations, that faith can be a pinprick of hope.
- Do you let the book stew – leave it for a month and then come back to it to edit?
This is a perfect way to describe how I write. Although, this is actually how I write my first draft. I have six months between books, so a relatively short deadline. However, I find myself “stewing” on the story for upwards of four months before I ever sit down to write. Often, the words come in 4-6 weeks, but the story itself has been watched and rewatched like a favorite move in my head many, many times.
- How can readers discover more about you and your work?
I would love to have readers follow me on Instagram (www.instagram.com/jaimejowright) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/jaimejowright). I also host a podcast where I chat with a variety of authors and talk more than just story, but also the deeper elements of themes such as faith, post-partum depression, identity, justice, and more! www.madlitmusings.com . And, readers can sign up for my newsletter where I often include fun stuff you can’t find on social media at www.jaimewrightbooks.com.

The Vanishing At Castle Moreau by Jaime Jo Wright
Genre: Suspense/Thriller
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers
Release date: April 2023
Content Rating: PG
A haunting legend. An ominous curse. A search for a secret buried deep within the castle walls.
In 1870, orphaned Daisy François takes a position as housemaid at a Wisconsin castle to escape the horrors of her past life. There she finds a reclusive and eccentric Gothic authoress who hides tales more harrowing than the ones in her novels. As women disappear from the area and the eerie circumstances seem to parallel a local legend, Daisy is thrust into a web that could ultimately steal her sanity, if not her life.
In the present day, Cleo Clemmons is hired by the grandson of an American aristocratic family to help his grandmother face her hoarding in the dilapidated Castle Moreau. But when Cleo uncovers more than just the woman’s stash of collectibles, a century-old mystery and the dust of the old castle’s curse threaten to rise again . . . this time to leave no one alive to tell the sordid tale.
Award-winning author Jaime Jo Wright seamlessly weaves a dual-time tale of two women who must do all they can to seek the light amid the darkness shrouding Castle Moreau.
