ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo are known for living out their faith and family values during their years of television stardom. Jinger first appeared on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, and later, the couple appeared together on Counting On. Hailing from Springdale, Arkansas, and part of the Duggar family, Jinger is an avid home cook, gifted pianist, and violinist who uses her talents to support the non-profit organization Swan 4 Kids. Jeremy is a former professional soccer player from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, now enrolled in the graduate program at The Master’s Seminary. The Vuolos live in Los Angeles, California, with their two children.

We wrote “You Can Shine So Bright!” with a very specific purpose in mind. We wanted young children, like our two girls—Felicity Nicole and Evangeline Jo, to know that they have been made on purpose with a purpose. As our Creator, God has a mission for each and every person: to know his love and to share it with the world. In “You Can Shine So Bright!” we walk our young readers through the fruit of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5, and show children how they can change the world through the love of Jesus!

Engage

Jesus taught using so many visual images and stories. He talked using parables—which were stories meant to make a simple point—and so often pointed to fig trees and other physical objects to teach spiritual lessons. One of our goals with “You Can Shine So Bright!” was to give visuals for what it meant to live by the Spirit! We want every child who reads it to engage with the illustrations and stories to see how these spiritual realities apply to their lives. 

Encourage

Knowing Jesus changes everything in life. When we think of what it means to follow him, Galatians 5 and the fruit of the Spirit is a helpful place to go. The first fruits on the tree of your life are love, joy, and peace. Everyone wants that! The whole world is pursuing those three realities in life. And Jesus offers it to anyone who puts their faith in him. We want children around the world to know and experience this beautiful love, joy, and peace…along with the rest of the fruit! We want children to know that they don’t have to be cruel and mean to succeed in life but, with Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they can be an influence for good to change the world they live in.

So, we hope all the kids who read “You Can Shine So Bright!” are as gripped by the illustrations as we are. Naomi Robinson (@nyha_graphics) did an incredible job. When we were sent Naomi’s portfolio and were told it was possible for us to work with her, we immediately knew that she was the artist for this book. Her art is visual poetry. Especially with a book that has such profound spiritual meaning, we wanted the art to reflect and communicate the power of the words. Naomi accomplished that in this book and we could not be prouder of her work and excited to partner with her. It was important for us to feel like the pictures communicated the stories they we were telling. And they do. We hope you and your kids enjoy the message of this little book!  

There are so many voices in our world telling our children that they exist to pursue pleasure at any cost and love themselves more than anyone else. We wanted to share the beautiful message of Jesus that gives life meaning and joy.
