ABOUT THE BOOK
Title: The Danger with Diamonds
Some secrets are worth keeping. Others are not.
When Lars Hendriks arranges to meet Marit Jansen in Vienna, he is hoping their friendship will blossom into romance. What he doesn’t expect is a surprise visit from his cousin Cole or the loose diamonds he brings with him.
As a CIA operative, Cole Bridger is used to uncertainty, but when his work takes him back to Vienna, he looks forward to reconnecting with Isabelle Roberts, the fellow agent he dated briefly before duty took him away from Austria. Unfortunately, his silence over the last few months has created a chasm that he can’t cross without help. He barely takes a step toward repairing the damaged relationship when a brazen jewel heist seemingly links Cole, Lars, Marit, and Isabelle to the crime. The group is drawn into a deadly mystery, and once again, the treasures of Falcon Point are threatened. It doesn’t take long for them to realize they have stumbled upon something far bigger and more dangerous than a simple robbery. And someone on the inside knows it.

The Danger with Diamonds (Traci Hunter Abramson and Sian Ann Bessey)
Writing can be a lonely endeavor, but during the pandemic when so many people struggled with isolation, I was blessed with the opportunity to work with Sian Ann Bessey on multiple projects. The first was when we co-authored Heirs of Falcon Point with A. L. Sowards and Paige Edwards. The idea of so many authors combining their talents to create a single storyline was unique. It also gave us personal connections at a time we needed them the most.
As we worked together on Heirs, Sian and I discovered we have very compatible writing styles. We both are discovery writers, meaning we don’t work from an outline. We also have a similar writing speed, a shared sense of humor, and a close friendship. Fully aware, that our characters had more stories to tell, we set out to write the first of our Falcon Point Suspense series.
With our characters already chosen, we set off to discover where they would take us next. A shared Google.doc became our new favorite method of communication. Each morning I would wake up on the east coast to discover a hidden gem in my computer: Sian’s next scene.
After reading through what she had written, I would then put on my tennis shoes, step onto my treadmill with my Alphasmart Neo in hand, and start crafting my next scene. By the time Sian awoke in her home in Idaho, my new scene would be waiting for her, and the process would continue.
I have to admit, co-writing a novel was an amazing experience for me. We both had someone to plot and plan with, someone to share the work, and a continued reason to stay connected despite the many restrictions that were in place due to COVID.
We used zoom sessions to plot out several scenes at a time so we had a shared plan of what would happen next. It was during one of these sessions that I discovered something I had never realized before. I have no idea what I’m doing when I write a book. Or as Sian would say, I’m bonkers. Okay, so this conversation may have occurred when we had multiple suspects who might end up being our bad guy, but I had no idea who it was.
Using her sense of humor and powers of persuasion, Sian convinced me to make a plan that included identifying our bad guy. Sian has since commented that this was her crowning moment in this project. Beyond that though, I think Sian would agree that the best part of working together was witnessing how our humor and our friendship bled into our characters and allowed us to create something we will always cherish.
