Guest Post: Something you are thankful for

Although it may sound strange, I am thankful for suffering.
With each difficult trial I have faced, God has taught me to choose joy, and to praise Him through the pain.  This has certainly not been an easy task for the Lord, because I am a very slow learner.
After a very painful childhood, I had mastered the fine but devastating art of “whining.”  Thankfully, Jesus knocked and entered my heart when I was a teen and has been carefully purifying me through the various fiery trials of life.
From abandonment and divorce, remarriage and several miscarriages, the trials of rescuing and raising wounded children, the cancer diagnosis of Sparky and the recent cancer diagnosis of my own, and more recently severe arthritis and chronic pain.  In and through all these things He has given me a heart to rejoice and sing.
I learned from my mentor, Elisabeth Elliot, to live with open hands, and to say “Lord, I am willing to receive what You send, to relinquish what You take, to suffer what You inflict, and to be what You require,” and to be “Broken Bread and Poured Out Wine.”
I am a slow learner, but I am Oh! so grateful for His patience and grace.
