MEET THE AUTHOR:

Melissa Stuart lives in Los Angeles, California with her family, their English Mastiff, Gucci, and their pony, Luna! Melissa and her husband stay busy traveling all over the country with their boys’ hockey teams. She loves being a Hockey Mom and watching her boys chase their dream of following in their dad’s footsteps to play in the NHL! Her happy place is with her little girl, Stella, at the barn surrounded by horses and their precious Luna. Sun Valley, Idaho is her family’s favorite summer getaway destination. When they’re there, Melissa feels most inspired to write sitting by the river, surrounded by mountains and nature! Her dream of becoming a published author for the first time came true in early 2021, as she shared her story “Find Your Sunshine” in a book co-written by 10 other inspiring authors—all of whom were sharing stories about shining their light and becoming difference makers in the world! Melissa hopes this story will inspire children to always look up. She wishes to teach them that true joy comes when we shine our own light and show kindness to others. That’s the secret to finding our sunshine!

Interview with Melissa Stuart

Do you have another profession besides writing?

I was in the fitness industry for the past 15 years. It wasn’t until I could no longer teach fitness classes due to multiple spinal surgeries that I found writing as a new passion.

What made you write a book about butterfly’s and horses?

After my grandmother passed away yellow butterfly’s always seemed to appear when I was horseback riding. When I could no longer ride due to my back injuries, many times i noticed them appear above my little girl when she would ride. It was such a gift to witness during the hardest time in my life.

In your book you state that the horse Luna and little girl Star are a match made in heaven. Why is that?

Luna arrived from across the country already named by her previous owner. Her name means moon and my daughter’s name is Stella which means star. I felt like it was meant to be!

Where do you write?

My favorite place to write is in my bedroom, on my sofa in front of the fireplace. Such a      peaceful and quiet setting.

Where is your favorite travel spot?

My favorite travel spot is Sun Valley Idaho! I feel most inspired to write while sitting by the river surrounded by mountains and nature.

My Thoughts on Butterfly Love From Above

This book was beautiful. I loved how Melissa Stuart used a trio of characters: a little girl, a butterfly, and a pony, to show how we can overcome grief and that there is life, and joy even after tragedy.

This book is one my littles loved to read it was cute, the story was easy to follow, and best of all it was a conversation starter. They asked questions! To me that is one sign of a good book, that it sparks conversation and curiosity.

The illustrations are a beautiful compliment to the story, they flow very well and add a wonderful layer of grace to the story. The illustrator did a wonderful job.

Overall, this story was a delightful read with deep topics covered in an easy to understand way. Some of the words would be hard for younger kids to sound out/read by them selves. But otherwise a very well put together book.

4 Stars.

*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinion’s expressed within are my own.
