Kate Angelo is an author, minister, and public speaker from Southwest Missouri who works alongside her husband strengthening and encouraging marriages and families through their ministry. As the mother of five mostly grown children, she is fluent in both sarcasm and eye rolls-subjects she never intentionally taught while homeschooling. With her chihuahua taking up half of her desk space, she writes suspenseful stories of imperfect people who encounter hope and healing through Jesus. Kate is a tech enthusiast, coffee lover, productivity guru, accomplished knitter, avid boater, prayer warrior, and known klutz.

Sami A. Abrams grew up hating to read. It wasn’t until her 30s that she found authors who captured her attention. Now, most evenings you can find her engrossed in a romantic suspense novel. In her opinion, a crime plus a little romance is the recipe for a great story. Sami lives in Northern California, but she will always be a Kansas girl at heart. She has a love of sports, family, and travel. However, a cabin at Lake Tahoe writing her next story is definitely at the top of her list.

Kelly Underwood‘s favorite things are reading, writing, and drinking coffee. She was born in New Hampshire, but don’t ask her about snow, because she’s been a Florida girl since she was twelve. She writes book reviews for her blog bestinsuspense.com and is an active member of the Central Florida chapter of the American Christian Fiction Writers. She’s a sucker for a good suspense novel, the kind you have to read cover-to-cover until the mystery is solved and the bad guys are in handcuffs. If you’re looking for her, she’s probably on her back patio with a Kindle in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. Visit her at kellyunderwoodauthor.com

GUEST POST FROM SAMI
How do I craft my stories? Well, you could call Sami’s method a hot mess. Lol!
I am learning how to plan more because publishers want a synopsis, but if I could do it my way, I’d have a concept in mind, then sit down and write. I just heard multiple people groan. 😊 I love the creative flow that comes from not having a specific direction for the story. You never know where it might go.
However, now that I have contracts to fill and proposals to write, I have modified my process. The first thing I do is brainstorm ideas. Once I have a basic premise, I find pictures of my hero and heroine and sketch out their characters. What is their problem? What happened in their past? What type of personality do they have? Basically, I get to know them. After that, I decide on a trope. Friends to more, reunion, strangers, etc.
Once I have the characters and the idea for the plot, I pull out my trusty kill sheet. Yes, you heard me correctly. 😊 I have a list of ways to put my characters in danger. (Insert evil laugh) I’m old school when I start. I create a timeline on colored binder paper, the brighter the better. I pencil in different ways to try to take out my hero and heroine. Honestly, after that, I start writing. It usually takes me several chapters to discover who my characters really are.
I think the most interesting thing about my process, even to me, is that I don’t know who the villain is until I write the black moment scene. Yes, sometimes I have to go back and add to the character, but many times I’ve already set him or her up in the story as a possibility. The story I’m working on now, the character didn’t even exist until that moment. Sigh. Welcome to my writing life. Hehe!
I’ve tried plotting. It never turns out well. My characters deviate from the plan, then I have all this work that no longer fits in my story. So, I’ve embraced my strange style. But I continue to tweak my process to find better ways that still work for me. Maybe someday I’ll become a plotter, but don’t hold your breath. LOL!
