“He straightened. “I’ll not see you throw your life and your fortune away on some money-grubbing scoundrel. I may not be good for much these days, but I can at least scare off the rabble.”Unbelievable. “The papers have something right, anyway—you are a madman. A raving lunatic.” She moved to step past him, back onto the street.He blocked her. “You’ll not dissuade me, Arabelle. I’ve made up my mind, so just resign yourself to an escort.”“I don’t need a … a guard dog!” She moved to sidestep him the other direction and, as soon he shifted to compensate, darted around him on the first. He was at her side within a step. “Woof.”It was anger simmering. It had to be. She couldn’t let it be amusement, couldn’t let it be gratitude, and certainly couldn’t let it be hope. “Go home, Camden.”“No.”“I don’t want your company.”“Too bad.”“I’ll have my father—”“I’ve already spoken to your father. He thinks it capital of me to want to champion you.And has issued a standing invitation for me to come by in the evenings and chat about aviation and the possible applications of the field to his own.” He would. She gritted her teeth, picked up her pace, and angled her face up at Camden, ready to lam bast him with the only truth that might get him to call off this ridiculous plan.You’ll do me more harm than good. The words died before she gave them breath. Because when she looked up, he was looking down, and those too-blue eyes of his weren’t just cold. They weren’t just patronizing. They weren’t just determined. They were the very thing he’d called her—desperate. “I may not be good for much these days….” He’d been stripped of his squadron, his brothers-in-arms, his purpose. He’d been told he was a villain. He needed to help. Someone, somehow. He needed to prove, if only in some small way, that he was worthwhile. My Review

After reading this book all my head wants to say is WOW…

I have not previously read any books by Roseanna M. White and I am now scratching my head wondering how I could have missed her? This book On Wings of Devotion is actually the second book in her Codebreaker series. However, I was not lost at all just jumping into this one (I will definitely be going back and reading the first one though).

The character interactions in this book are the best I have read in a while. They banter back and forth so much, and you just can’t help but smile or laugh, through it all. They did have their ups and downs, but I was amazed by Ara’s absolute faith in the face of everything that happened. Yes, she had doubts but they never lasted for long. That is what I personally strive to do even though it doesn’t always work out as well as in this book. Camden was also a great character who I enjoyed getting to know. He was the picture of a flamboyant flyboy with a teddy bear heart underneath. So much mystery surrounds him, and we get fed little bits of his true character throughout the book. It was like getting to know someone in real life, you slowly get to know them over time.

The storyline in this book was riveting like it literally sucked me in (Laundry did not get done that day 😊). I think it really comes back to the ways in which Roseanna M. White used her characters. She used a combination of real events that happened in history combined with characters in believable situations and she rounded them up in a great storyline full of espionage, mystery, and love.

I give this book a resounding 5 out of 5 stars for keeping me hooked from the very beginning, the historical accuracy of the characters and events, and for the overwhelming theme of faith in God that He is always by your side. I highly recommend reading this book!
