A little bit about Jessica Ashley
After spending seven years in the Army, Jessica Ashley set out to write novels that would transport readers to new worlds and help them escape reality with messages of underdogs and swoon-worthy romance. After eight years of a successful writing career underneath two pen names, she felt her faith pulling her in a new direction.
Now, she writes sweet romance with messages of faith, hope, and the importance of trusting our hearts and the word of God. Her debut novel, Pages of Promise, is set to release in February 2024. She resides in Texas with her husband of twelve years, their three kids, a flock of chickens, an orange cat who thinks he runs the house, and three dogs who don’t realize just how big they are. An Author Interview With Jessica Ashley
Thank you so much for letting me interview you Jessica!
Which of your Published or Unpublished books is your favorite, and why?
Pages of Promise for sure! I put SO MUCH into this one, and it was a huge step outside of what I’m used to writing in the best possible way.
How do you pick your character’s personalities or looks?
Whatever comes to mind, usually.
What is your favorite genre to read? What is your favorite genre to write? And why are they your favorites?
Romance! I LOVE romance. Love is such a gift, and getting to tell stories where people fall in love is so rewarding.
What inspires you the most?
My faith.
Once an idea takes root, how long does it take you to write it down? Do you use outlines?
I typically write one or two lines in my OneNote app (or on a sticky note depending on where I am). Sometimes it will be weeks before I revisit, sometimes days. And I do not use outlines, LOL! Unless they are SUPER loose–as in, X will happen at some point in the book, LOL.
Do you have a favorite author? Or someone whom you would say has influenced your writing style?
Nora Roberts has always been my favorite. I love her stories, and the way her mind works. Francine Rivers is a super close second! Her stories always resonate with me.
What are your hobbies other than writing?
BAKING. I am obsessed with Sourdough.
Do you have a genre that you would never write?
HORROR. Hard pass on that one.
What is one thing you would say has had the greatest impact on your writing?
Reviews, LOL. Ever since I started publishing, I take the time to read my reviews. The good, the bad, the downright mean–I read them all. Because most of the time, there are things I can digest that will help me grow.
Lastly, what was your favorite book growing up?
Eragon! It was the book that gave me a love of fantasy. And the fact that he wrote it at such a young age, was a massive inspiration for me.
