He just wants to erase his past. She can’t seem to escape hers. But facing it might put their future in jeopardy.

The day Jack Stewart walked out of jail, he vowed to keep his conviction a secret. The whole thing was just a terrible mistake, and he did his time. Now he wants a new life in a sleepy town where no one knows his name. Deep Haven is the perfect place to start over as a chef. The last thing the former pararescue jumper wants is to get involved. But when Boone Buckam—the guy he owes for getting him out of the slammer—asks for help, how can he refuse? Colleen Decker has already escaped evil once—as a teenager, she was kidnapped by a murderer. But she’s put all that behind her as a trauma nurse in Minneapolis. Or maybe not, because a freak mistake in the ER sends her past crashing down on her. She needs a timeout in her hometown of Deep Haven. She doesn’t plan to stay—even when she’s roped into the job of flight nurse for the town’s Crisis Response Team chopper. Colleen’s not sure why she’s drawn to danger, but she’ll be safe enough—after all, she’ll need training, and her teacher is a handsome former pararescue jumper. What could go wrong? When Jack said he didn’t want to get involved, he especially meant his heart—but being with Colleen feels like a fresh start. He’ll even climb aboard a chopper again, despite his vows. They’re headed for a happy ending… But secrets never stay buried in a small town. And when disaster strikes one snowy night, they’ll both have to decide if the past will destroy them…or if it just might lead them home. Cozy up to this perfect Deep Haven drama about discovering a season of second chances.

Author Q&A with ANDREA!

Which of your Published or Unpublished books is your favorite, and why?

That’s a hard question! I think whichever book I’m dreaming about writing is my favorite. The ones unwritten haven’t had a chance to cause me any headaches yet! Ha!

How do you pick your character’s personalities or looks?

I try to think about the story I want to tell, and then what kind of person would find themselves in the middle of that kind of story. Ususally their personalities develop and then I can see their face. I have to admit though, I’m not as strong on imagining faces, even of my own characters, I just have a general idea of what they look like.

What is your favorite genre to read? What is your favorite genre to write? And why are they your favorites?

I like to describe myself as a reading omnivore—I don’t have a favorite genre. Just give me all the books! I’m currently really loving to write contemporary romance. I think a romance story well told can point to the greater story of Christ love for each of us.

What inspires you the most?

Life itself is inspirational. Sometimes I look around and marvel at the strangest things. Like, have you ever thought about all the innovations which had to happen in order for dry erase markers to exsist? Or, what kind of trial and error before people knew how to harvest kopi luwak? Google “kopi luwak” and then imagine the story possibilities!

Once an idea takes root, how long does it take you to write it down? Do you use outlines?

As far as ideas, I usually jot down snippets of ideas in my notes app on my phone as they occur to me. I have dozens of them such as “Scene idea: using a ziplock bag of pancakes as a pillow” and “Fatigue and God’s rest” and “Washing oatmeal off the kitchen floor on Mother’s Day.” Ideas are quick and easy. If I am turning them into a novel that will take several months. And, yes, I use an outline. I like to know where I’m going and how I’m getting there.

Do you have a favorite author? Or someone whom you would say has influenced your writing style?

Well, definitely Susan May Warren. She’s been a favorite of mine for years. I am honored and humbled that she is now my mentor and friend!

What are your hobbies other than writing?

I enjoy reading (is that a given?), traveling, meeting friends for coffee, and watching The Flash with my husband.

Do you have a genre that you would never write?

Never is a strong word. I don’t think I would be very good at writing mysteries, but would certainly give it a go. Same with sci-fi. I’d say the only off limits topic I would be unwilling to write is any kind of sex scene.

What is one thing you would say has had the greatest impact on your writing?

Whoo, another tough question. Often the questions I am having about God and how He feels about something will influence the themes in my writing. Other than that, I’d say reading widely has impacted me in ways I’m still sifting through.

Lastly, what was your favorite book growing up?

I loved The Forgotten Daughter by Caroline Snedeker. Full of romantic ideals about Rome and Greece and slavery, it ignited my imagination to a world beyond my own sheltered life.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for Stopping by Andrea!
