SYNOPSIS:
When evil just won’t quit, good must prevail
Investigative Services Branch ranger Ainsley Beaumont wishes the visit to her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, was under better circumstances. When she arrived to investigate the murder of a pregnant teenager, she never imagined that she would become the killer’s next target–or that she’d have to work alongside an old flame.
After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn’t bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her.
The only question is, will it be too little, too late?
Q & A with PATRICIA BRADLEY!
How long have you been writing?
Too many years to tell. When I speak to writing groups, one of the first things I tell my audience is, “Don’t Give Up.” I’m a perfect example of what can happen when you persevere.
How do you write? Any backstory to your choice?
I think by computer, but it wasn’t always so. When I first started writing it was on a Hermes portable typewriter. After I sold my first short story, I bought an electric typewriter, and if I hadn’t bought a computer with my second story, I probably never would have written anything else—I was a terrible typist! A computer is so forgiving. And no more literally cutting and pasting on the living room floor with the manuscript pages spread around me!
Who are some of the authors you feel were influential in your work?
I always want to give a shoutout to Susan May Warren and Rachel Hauck for mentoring me when I first started writing. They were and are awesome.
Is there any person(s) you credit for being your inspiration for reading and/or writing?
Will Rogers. Yep. When I was probably in the second or third grade, the library finally allowed me to have a library card of my own. I searched and searched the kids (juvenile) section for the perfect first book and spied this cover with a man twirling a lasso. Since I wanted a horse more than I wanted anything in the world, I grabbed it. It turned out to be a biography of Will Rogers. That story set me on a path of reading that has lasted my whole life.
What one or two pieces of advice would you offer any not-yet-published authors?
Learn the craft, and find a writing group to share your work with for gentle critiques. Once a writer does that, then they need to develop a thick skin because they’re going to need it. I tell them I’ve never met an edit I didn’t embrace…eventually. But most of all, don’t give up.
