Along a Storied Trail – Book Review

Along a Storied Trail by Ann H. Gabhart Published by Revell. A book Review From The Adventures of a Travelers Wife.

About the Book:

Along a Storied TrailKentucky packhorse librarian Tansy Calhoun doesn’t mind the rough trails and long hours as she serves her Appalachian mountain community during the Great Depression. Yet she longs to find love like the heroines in her books. When a charming writer comes to town, she thinks she might have found it–or is the perfect man actually closer than she thinks?

Perdita Sweet has called these mountains home for so long she’s nearly as rocky as the soil around her small cabin. Long ago she thought she could love, but when the object of her affection up and married someone else, she stopped giving too much of herself away to others.

As is so often the case, it’s easier to see what’s best for others than to see what’s best for oneself, and Perdita knows who Tansy should choose. But why would anyone listen to the romantic advice of an old spinster?

Saddle up for a heartfelt story of love–love of family, love of place, and the love of a lifetime–from bestselling author Ann H. Gabhart.

My Thoughts on A Storied Trail

This book had all the best things that make up compelling stories.

Ann H. Gabhart has a rich understanding of the mountain people’s language and she displayed it beautifully in this book, and she did it in a way that everyone can understand it; talking from experience here mountain language is different and not always easy to understand. I loved the deep integration of faith in Along a Storied Trail, and the frank display of the times. No sugar coating it. The Depression was hard, not glamorous.

“The way the Lord can bring blessings at hard times can confound a body for certain.”

Both Tansy and Caleb (and the great secondary characters) were people you could see your self knowing in real life. They were down to earth, honest in their struggles, and had a faith that was lived out in their day-to-day actions… Honestly some of the easiest to fall in love with characters ever.

I give Along a Storied Trail 5 stars.
